Tom Fruin's Iconic Water Tower Sculpture
Located in Brooklyn's DUMBO neighborhood, Tom Fruin's iconic stained-glass water tower is one of New York City's most recognizable sculptures. The work is crafted from roughly a thousand pieces of salvaged plexiglass. Each night, a computer-controlled light sequence from within transforms it into a beacon of shifting, vibrant colors, making it a celebrated part of the DUMBO skyline.
Inspired by my many years of living in and around New York City, I created a painting of Fruin's sculpture in 2014. My artwork captures the essence of his piece with approximately 300 individual shapes and a rich palette of custom-blended colors.
