Above the waterfront
Acrylic on gallery-wrapped canvas, signed in the lower right corner. Hanging hardware is included.
Above the Waterfront is an exploration of coastal architecture through a lens of pure form and vibrant energy. Like several of my other geometric paintings, this piece was created without a reference photo, allowing me to intuitively fit together houses, structural lines, and bold colors based on the principles of color theory and balance.
In this work, I used my signature geometric and cubist-inspired style to simplify a seaside village into its most essential shapes. The blue background represents the water, acting as a calm anchor for the bright, overlapping rooftops and industrial forms. By applying thick layers of paint to create opaque, high-contrast sections, I wanted to capture the rhythmic, almost musical way that buildings and sunlight interact along the coast. It is a structured yet playful take on the modern cityscape, focusing on the strength of architecture and the joy of bold, primary colors.
