Grand Canyon AZ
Acrylic on gallery-wrapped canvas, signed in the lower right corner. Hanging hardware is included.)
Having lived in Arizona for a dozen years, the Grand Canyon became a place of deep inspiration for me. This landscape painting captures the memory of one of my most thrilling adventures: hiking all the way down to the canyon floor where the Colorado River rages on. I remember the intensity of that journey—even securing a campsite at the bottom requires planning years in advance, often with a two-year wait.
In this work, I took an impressionistic approach to the soft light and atmospheric colors of the canyon, while maintaining my signature geometric and cubist-inspired structure. I wanted to deconstruct the massive scale of the canyon walls, focusing on the powerful, architectural layers of rock and the way the light carves out bold, angular shadows. By simplifying the rugged terrain into structured forms, I’ve tried to convey the raw, ancient energy I felt while standing at the base of those towering cliffs.
