Morning on martha's vineyard
Acrylic on gallery-wrapped canvas, signed in the lower right corner. Hanging hardware is included.
Inspired by photos taken during a memorable family vacation to Martha's Vineyard, this impressionistic landscape painting captures the quiet, early-light beauty of the island's unique terrain. I wanted to recreate the feeling of a peaceful morning walk through the rolling hills and coastal shrubs that define the Vineyard's natural landscape.
I used a warm, neutral palette of tans, muted yellows, and grays, accented with subtle hints of purple, green, and white. To give the piece a textured, almost sculptural feel, I applied thick, visible brushstrokes that emphasize the ruggedness of the foreground rocks and the low-lying shrubs. The composition features a flat horizon under a soft, cloudy sky, drawing the viewer's eye across the hilly terrain. By blending a Post-Impressionist technique with my own observations of the island, I’ve tried to capture the serene and timeless atmosphere of a New England summer.
