Valley of Solace at Rhinebeck NY
Acrylic on gallery-wrapped canvas, signed in the lower right corner. Hanging hardware is included.
Valley of Solace at Rhinebeck, NY is a deeply personal original landscape painting that captures the quiet, rolling beauty of the Mid-Hudson Valley. This scene is inspired by a view just a short walk from my home in Rhinebeck, where a wide, peaceful valley opens up toward the majestic Catskill Mountains in the distance.
In this work, I focused on the sense of "solace" found in the natural world. I used a Post-Impressionistic style with soft, visible brushstrokes to capture the layered greens of the valley and the atmospheric, hazy blues of the mountain range across the Hudson River. Instead of hard edges, I wanted the colors to bleed into one another, recreating that misty, early-morning light that often settles over Dutchess County. It is a tribute to the peacefulness of the local landscape and the timeless scenery that makes this region so special to me.
